The compact packing controller GMC-X904 is a DIN-rail mounted weighing controller designed for OEM bagging machine integration where panel space is at a premium. With single- and dual-hopper configurations, integrated coarse/fine cutoff and Modbus communication, the X904 is the right choice for compact bagging machines, mobile packaging units and any application where a panel-mount form factor would not fit.
DIN-rail mount for compact bagging machines
Where the GMC-P7 mounts on the front panel of a control cabinet, the GMC-X904 mounts on the standard 35 mm DIN rail inside the cabinet alongside PLC modules, power supplies and signal conditioners. The display and operator interface live on the bagging machine's HMI rather than on the controller face. This makes the X904 the right fit for: compact tabletop bagging machines where panel real estate is constrained, mobile packaging units where the entire control system needs to fit in a small enclosure, and modern automation cabinets where the HMI is on the cabinet door rather than on every individual controller face.
Single and double hopper operation
The X904 supports single-hopper operation for one-station bagging machines and double-hopper operation for parallel two-station machines. In single mode it drives one weigh hopper through coarse/fine cutoff into a single bag-fill cycle. In double mode it drives two independent hoppers, each with its own cutoff parameters, doubling line throughput on machines where cycle time is constrained by single-hopper fill-and-discharge time.
Frequently asked questions
How does the GMC-X904 differ from the GMC-P7 packing controller?
The GMC-P7 is panel-mount (operator interface on the cabinet face). The GMC-X904 is DIN-rail mount (no front-panel display. The HMI is the cabinet's separate HMI or the bagging machine's own touchscreen). Choose the P7 for traditional control cabinets where the operator works at the cabinet face; choose the X904 for compact machines or modern automation cabinets where the HMI is centralised elsewhere.
What protocols does the GMC-X904 support?
Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP as standard, plus serial RS232/RS485, making the X904 compatible with virtually any South African industrial PLC platform. There is no front-panel operator interface, so all configuration and operation happens through the cabinet HMI over fieldbus, or through Bluetooth via the General Measure configuration app.
Can the X904 run both bagging hoppers independently?
Yes. In dual-hopper mode the X904 drives two weigh hoppers in parallel, each with its own coarse and fine cutoff cycle. The two hoppers can run different fill weights and different cycle times if the bagging machine is filling two different package sizes simultaneously, or run the same parameters in parallel to double single-product throughput.
