Single hopper or dual head: choose the right configuration
The GM9907-L2 packing controller is available in two physical configurations. Both share the same I/O architecture, communication interfaces and core algorithms. They differ in scale capacity (one or two scales) and the bagging modes available.
| Specification | GM9907-L2 (single hopper) | GM9907-LD (dual head) |
|---|---|---|
| Configuration | Single-scale incremental method | Dual-scale increment method |
| Bagging modes | Net, Gross, Jumbo Bag, PLC | Net, Gross, Bulk scale |
| Recipe storage | 20 recipes | 40 recipes |
| I/O | 28 (12 in / 16 out) | 28 (12 in / 16 out) |
| Communication | RS-232, RS-485, MODBUS-RTU, USB | RS-232, RS-485, MODBUS-RTU, USB |
| Display | 7-inch resistive touch screen | 7-inch resistive touch screen |
| Dimensions | 190 × 124 × 48 mm | 199 × 133 × 47 mm |
| Best fit | Single bagging head, mainstream throughput | Dual bagging head, higher throughput, AB separate & combined modes |
How to choose
Choose the L2 for single-head bagging machines, smaller production lines, or where the four filling modes are required.
Choose the LD for dual-head bagging machines, higher throughput, or where dual hopper AB-separate / AB-combined packing modes are needed.

The GM9907-L2 packing controller is a high-speed weighing controller for automated bagging machines and single- or dual-scale net-weigh fillers. With 12 or 16 I/O configurations, Modbus TCP and RS232/485 communication, the GM9907 is the workhorse choice for South African feed mills, fertiliser plants, animal feed factories and grain handling operations running automated bagging lines.
Single and dual scale operation
The GM9907 is designed for two distinct bagging architectures. In single-scale configuration it drives one weigh hopper feeding one bag-fill station, with coarse/fine cutoff control and automatic free-fall compensation that adjusts on the fly as bag-to-bag variation drifts. In dual-scale configuration it drives two parallel weigh hoppers feeding a single discharge, used on high-throughput bagging lines where the cycle time of one scale is the bottleneck and pairing two scales doubles throughput without doubling the machine footprint.
Built for OEM bagging machine integration
The GM9907 is the standard controller specified by South African bagging machine OEMs because it ships with the I/O density and protocol support a packaging line needs: 12-point or 16-point digital I/O for tipping gates, bag clamps, discharge valves and sewing-station handshakes, plus serial and Ethernet communication to the supervisory PLC. The setpoint logic supports recipe storage, batch counting and ticket printing. Features that would otherwise require a separate PLC layer on simpler controllers.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the GM9907 and the GMC-P7 packing controller?
The GM9907 is a higher-capacity controller built for OEM bagging machine integration with 12-16 I/O points, dual-scale support and ticket-printing. The GMC-P7 is a compact panel-mount controller designed for simpler single-scale packing applications where the bagging machine OEM does not need the full I/O density of the GM9907.
Can the GM9907 run two bagging stations simultaneously?
Yes. In dual-scale mode the GM9907 drives two independent weigh hoppers in parallel, each with its own coarse and fine cutoff cycle. This is the standard configuration for high-throughput bagging lines in feed mills and fertiliser plants where bagging rate is constrained by hopper fill-cycle time.
Does the GM9907 support Modbus TCP for PLC integration?
Yes. Modbus TCP over Ethernet is standard, alongside RS232 and RS485 for serial-based supervisory systems. This makes the GM9907 compatible with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider and most other industrial PLC platforms used in South African production lines.
