Choosing the right weighing controller for your application

Industrial weighing controllers are the brains of an automated weighing line — they read the load cell signal, apply filtering and calibration, drive setpoint outputs for cutoff control, and communicate weights and commands to the wider control system over fieldbus. The right controller depends on what you are weighing, how fast the line runs, and how the result is used downstream. R&D Weighing supplies the full General Measure controller range to South African industrial sites, from single-product packing scales to multi-material recipe batching and continuous bulk throughput measurement.

Packing, batching and filling controllers

Packing controllers (such as the GMC-P7 and GMC-X families) are built for single-material gain-in-weight or loss-in-weight filling, with high-speed setpoint cutoff and ticket-print functionality for bagging, drumming and box-fill lines. Batching controllers (the GM9907-LB and GMC-P7-F8) are designed for multi-material recipe sequences — flour-yeast-salt in a bakery, cement-sand-aggregate in concrete batching, or feed ingredients in animal nutrition. Linear feeder, liquid filling and reduced-weight controllers cover the niche applications where standard packing logic is the wrong fit.

Bulk scale and continuous throughput measurement

For bulk handling at ports, mills and silos, the GM9907-L5 totalises stock-in and stock-out across the day, tracking inventory as material flows through belt scales, weighbridges and intake hoppers. The GM9907-L4 measures discharge from supply vessels where the silo or bulk hopper itself becomes the scale — the right approach for friable or fragile materials that can not pass through a conventional belt scale.

Integration with load cells and transmitters

Every weighing controller needs the rest of the chain to be specified correctly. The controller is paired with industrial load cells sized to the application capacity, and in cabinet-mounted automation systems it works alongside weighing transmitters that handle the analog-to-digital conversion. We help you specify the full system during quoting so the parts work together from day one.
