Load cells

Industrial load cells for every weighing application

Load cells supplied and supported across South Africa — from compact single-point cells in retail scales to multi-tonne canister cells under silos and hoppers.

Load cells in South Africa, supplying the full range of industrial weighing transducers to OEMs, integrators, and plant engineers across the SADC region. Whether you’re building a checkweigher line, retrofitting a silo, or specifying a fresh weighing system, we’ll help you pick the right load cell for the capacity, environment, and accuracy class your application needs.

The load cell types we supply

Each load cell type is engineered for a specific class of weighing problem. The right one depends on your capacity range, mounting, environment, and the kind of force the cell will see.

Single-point load cells

Single-point load cells take an off-centre load and convert it to a clean reading regardless of where the load sits on the platform. They’re the workhorse behind retail scales, parts counters, bench scales, and small platform scales up to around 200 kg. Compact, well-priced, and quick to integrate.

S-type load cells

S-type (or S-beam) load cells handle both tension and compression. They’re the right choice for hopper scales, hanging scales, tank weighing on suspended vessels, and any test rig that pulls or pushes through a single line of force. Typical capacity range is a few kilograms up to about 10 tonnes.

Bending beam load cells

Bending beam cells sit under floor scales, tank legs, and conveyor weighing systems where a flat low-profile mount is needed. They’re rated from a few hundred kilograms up to several tonnes and are common in food, packaging, and light industrial weighing.

Shear beam load cells

Shear beam cells handle higher capacities and side-loading better than bending beams. They’re the go-to for floor scales, tank and silo weighing, axle scales, and any application where the load might not land perfectly centred. Capacities typically run from 500 kg into the tens of tonnes.

Canister load cells

Canister (compression column) load cells are built for very high capacities — single units carrying 10 to 100+ tonnes. They sit under silos, hoppers, bulk-handling vessels, and weighbridges, often in groups of 3 or 4 cells supporting one structure. Their cylindrical compression-only design handles enormous static loads in tough industrial environments.

Weighing modules

Weighing modules are pre-engineered mounting assemblies that wrap a load cell with the side-stay, anti-uplift, and pivot hardware needed to install it correctly under a tank, silo, or vessel. They take the engineering guesswork out of mounting and protect the cell from horizontal and shock loads. Available across capacities to match the underlying load cell.

Choosing the right load cell for your application

Picking a load cell starts with the question “what does the load do?” Is the weight static (a tank that gets filled and emptied) or dynamic (a conveyor or checkweigher)? Is the force pure compression, pure tension, or mixed? What’s the environment — washdown food production, dusty bulk handling, outdoor mining, or controlled-temperature manufacturing?

We’ll work through these questions with you, propose a configuration that fits your line, and supply the cells with the transmitters, controllers, junction boxes, and mounting hardware that complete the weighing system.

Capacities and certifications

Across the General Measure load cell range we supply, capacities run from approximately 1 kg single-point cells up to 100 tonne canister cells. Accuracy classes include OIML R60 C3 and C6 for legal-for-trade applications. Most cells are available in IP67 or IP68 sealing, with stainless steel options for hygienic and corrosive environments. ATEX-rated variants are available for hazardous-area installations.
