Applications
Applications
The GMT-H4 suits applications where multiple scales report into a single panel — multi-hopper batching, multi-vessel inventory weighing, and split-platform truck or rail scales where each weigh module needs its own load-cell input but the operator wants one combined readout.

The GMT-H4 four-channel stainless weight transmitter brings four independent load-cell channels into a single waterproof wall- or desk-mount housing. A 256 × 64 2.8" OLED display, 8-way comparator across all channels, and the same Modbus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, CC-Link IE and optional GPRS protocols as the rest of the range sit inside a 200 × 98 × 150 mm stainless suspension shell — the only General Measure transmitter that combines multi-channel weighing with washdown-ready stainless construction, ideal for multi-vessel hygienic plants and split-platform truck scales.
Multi-channel weighing without a cabinet
The DIN-rail GMT-X4 already covers four-channel weighing inside an automation cabinet. The GMT-H4 takes the same four-channel architecture and packages it into a stainless waterproof hanging housing — so plants that have no control cabinet near the weigh points (washdown bays, outdoor tank farms, mezzanine reactor floors, vehicle loading bays) can still run all four scales through one transmitter mounted on the wall next to the action.
Each of the four load-cell channels takes up to 4 × 350 Ω cells (16 total across the unit), with independent calibration, decimal point, division and capacity per channel. Channel 1 could be a 5 kg ingredient check-scale; channel 4, a 5-tonne mixing vessel — same module, same operator interface, same fieldbus address.
Combination mode for split-platform applications
Like the GMT-X4, the H4 switches between Independent mode (four separate scales) and Combination mode (two-to-four channels summed). For split-platform truck scales and weighbridges built with multiple load-receiving modules, Combination mode delivers the single total weight the weighbridge software needs while still letting maintenance staff see each load-point during calibration and fault-finding.
The 256 × 64 2.8" OLED display is the biggest in the transmitter range, with enough resolution to show all four channels simultaneously or a single zoomed total. Six tactile keys with sounding feedback handle on-unit configuration; built-in web pages handle browser-based setup when the optional Ethernet board is fitted.
When the GMT-H4 is the right choice
Pick the GMT-H4 when the application needs more than one load-cell channel and the unit must live in a wet, dusty, hygienic or outdoor location where a DIN-rail cabinet is impractical. Typical fits are multi-hopper hygienic batching (food, dairy, pharma), multi-vessel chemical plants, multi-silo material-level monitoring, and split-platform weighbridges. For dry cabinet-mount four-channel duty, the GMT-X4 is the cheaper and more compact answer. For single-channel washdown duty, the GMT-H2 is the equivalent.
Frequently asked questions
How is the GMT-H4 different from the GMT-X4?
Both have the same four-channel weighing architecture with combination + independent modes. The X4 is DIN-rail mount (61 × 132 × 126 mm) for installation inside a cabinet. The H4 is a stainless steel waterproof hanging housing (200 × 98 × 150 mm) for wall or desktop mounting in washdown, outdoor or hygienic environments where a cabinet is impractical.
How many load cells does the GMT-H4 support?
Each of the four channels drives up to 4 × 350 Ω load cells in parallel — 16 cells total across the unit. Each channel accepts 1 mV/V, 2 mV/V or 3 mV/V load cells independently, so you can mix sensitivities between channels.
Can I run a weighbridge with the GMT-H4?
Yes, for split-platform truck and rail scales the H4 in Combination mode is a clean fit: each load-receiving module wires to its own channel, the H4 sums them into one total weight for the weighbridge software, and during calibration or fault-finding each load-point is still independently visible. The 8-way comparator handles axle-detection and stability set-points.
What fieldbus protocols are available?
Modbus RTU (RS485) and GMCont continuous mode are standard, with RS232 also built in. Order-option boards add single or dual network ports (Modbus TCP), Profinet, EtherNet/IP, CC-Link IE and a GPRS communication module for cellular telemetry.
Does the GMT-H4 have a local display?
Yes — a 256 × 64 2.8" OLED, the largest display in the General Measure transmitter range. It can show all four channels at once, or any one channel zoomed full-screen with status indicators for STAB, ZERO, NET, COM and individual units per channel.
What power supply does the H4 need?
DC 24 V (18 – 30 VDC) — same as the X1, X4 and H2. Power consumption is similar to the H2. For AC-mains input on remote / off-grid sites without a 24 VDC bus, the GMT-H1 covers that niche but only with a single load-cell channel.
